La Serenissima (The Most Serene Republic of Venice) was an independent sovereign state and maritime republic in north-east Italy until 1797 when it was split in two by Austria and France before being incorporated into a united Italy.

In this etching ‘La Serenissima’ is viewed across the lagoon from the island church of San Giorgio Maggiore. Dominating the scene is the bell tower of St Mark’s and the Doge’s Palace. Edging the lagoon are a plethora of grand palaces, which come together to create the magic that is Venice.

This print is drawn on a copper plate. It is printed on Somerset Velvet, an off-white heavyweight 300 gsm handmade paper. The print is signed and numbered by the artist.
