‘Gloriana’ is a depiction of Queen Elizabeth I at the very end of her life. Here she reflects on the triumphs and tragedies of her reign. As Queen, she was praised as a heroine of the Protestant cause and the ruler of a golden age in England. Under Elizabeth, the nation gained a new self-confidence and sense of sovereignty, as Christendom fragmented.
